The only thing better than a delectable, tender-sweet butterhead (Boston) lettuce is two different butterhead varieties, complementing one another in flavor profile, texture, and appearance! That’s why we combined two popular varieties into one economical mixture for container and garden: glossy red Roxy and super-tender, adaptable green Mirlo.
Roxy is the most popular butterhead in Europe, winner of the Royal Horticulture Society’s coveted Award of Garden Merit (AGM), and a very easy-to-grow choice for any climate. Glossy red and puffy-leafed, it is green at the heart and wonderfully ruffled and dense. You get more leaves than you expect from every head of this bolt-resistant, tipburn and downy mildew-tolerant champion!
Mirlo is a creamy green Boston type, very succulent and tender. Its growth habit is exceptional: it continues to fill in even as you harvest the outer leaves, so you get a continuous supply of young, tender, delectable bites! (Of course, you can also harvest the whole head at once!) Resistant to tomato bushy stunt virus and lettuce mosaic virus, it’s a great choice for climates where other lettuces may have struggled. And its flavor profile complements Roxy’s magnificently!
Lettuce thrives in cold weather and can be sown directly into the garden, starting in early spring. For an even earlier harvest, sow indoors; the seedlings don’t mind transplanting. If a fall crop is desired, begin in late summer. Grow in single rows, plants spaced 12 to 15 inches apart, or in containers.
Pkt is 100 seeds.
